Where Can I Find God?

This psalm shows two ways in which God reveals Himself. First, he says the heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the works of his hands. Day after day and night after night they preach how great is our God. If you are looking for a sermon, all you have to look at is the sun, moon and stars. Romans 1, says that we are all without excuse, because God reveals Himself in His Creation. What can be known about him has been made clear. How else can you explain the beauty of Creation if there is not a Creator?

Then, the psalmist turns toward the Law of The Lord. This would be the first five books of the Old Testament, which is called the Torah. It was the bible for the Jews, where God revealed himself to Moses through the Ten Commandments, which is a summary of the Law. Then the writer speaks of all the benefits of knowing God's Law, and how they are more precious than gold, and sweeter than honey. As they listen to the Laws and obey His statutes, there is great joy.

But there would be one more revelation, where God would reveal His greatest work. God revealed Himself perfectly and completely in the person and work of Jesus, His one and only Son. As we watch Jesus' life, we see God. As we see what Jesus does and how He treats people, we see God's kingdom coming and His will being done. Jesus was in the beginning with God, when the world was created. Jesus came to completely fulfill the Law, we could never measure up to. Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirements of the Law, so we could become perfect in His eyes. In Jesus we are a new creation.

And through Jesus, God has chosen us, as it says in 1 Peter 2. We are his special possession, and through us and the Church he continues to reveal himself to all mankind. And when all people have had the chance to see God the Father through God the Son, one day Jesus will return in great and promised glory.

God shows us He wants to be known. He desires for us to worship Him and be in relationship with Him. Spend some time worshipping God today. You can see Him as the Sun rises or sets. Or the moon shines in the night sky. And we can see God when we gather with those who are called by Him, as His treasured possession. We can see the light of Christ in their eyes. I give thanks that God didn't play a game of hide and seek, but He showed us He wants to be found!

Psalm 19
For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
